Q. Which cells should I use to grow viruses for NAI resistance testing?
Madin-Darby Canine Kidney (MDCK) cells are suitable for most viruses. Recent influenza A viruses, however, grow better in MDCK-SIAT cells which have the gene for a2,6 linked sialic acid continuously over-expressed.
Q. Where can I get cells?
Both MDCK and MDCK SIAT cells are commercially available from several sources including European Collection of Cell Cultures (ECACC) and ATCC-LGC Standards.
